The optical system employs three aspherical lenses and two UD lenses, achieving extremely high resolution and high-contrast rendering capabilities.



Aspherical lens
Spherical aberration correction of large-aperture lenses, distortion correction of wide-angle lenses, and miniaturization of zoom lenses. The solution to these three themes is the aspherical lens.



UD lens
More lenses to achieve ideal chromatic aberration correction. Developed under this theme, the UD Ultra Low Dispersion lens features optical materials with low refraction and low dispersion characteristics, effective in removing secondary spectrum, with abnormal dispersion properties similar to fluorite, and performs almost on par with a single fluorite lens with just two elements.



IMAGE STABILIZER
Canon's pioneering in-body image stabilization (IS Image Stabilizer) for SLR cameras. It is effective in scenes prone to camera shake, such as handheld telephoto shooting.


Ring USM
USM Ultrasonic Motor = ultrasonic motor provides high torque and high response, enabling quick autofocus. It has almost no operational noise, making it ideal for lens drive.



Inner Focus
A technology that makes part of the lens structure focusable, reducing the overall weight of moving lens elements. Enables fast, precise AF control, excellent holding balance, and compact design.
