High-power Speedlite
A multi-functional, high-power clip-on Speedlite that supports the advanced E-TTL auto exposure system. The guide number is 15 55 ISO100 m, which is the highest guide number in the EX series. In addition to the auto quick zoom function, which changes the illumination range from wide-angle 24-105mm (19-84mm for EOS IX series, 15-approx. 66mm for EOS 10D/D60/D30) according to the lens's angle of view, the built-in wide panel allows coverage of angles of view as wide as 17mm (13mm for EOS IX series, approx. 11mm for EOS 10D/D60/D30). Bounce is possible upwards 60-90 degrees, left 60-180 degrees, right 60-90 degrees, and also downwards 7 positions for convenient close-up photography. When attached to an EOS that does not support "E-TTL auto exposure," it performs as a high-performance TTL auto exposure strobe.

E-TTL wireless multi-flash shooting also possible
By preparing multiple Speedlite 550EX units, you can enjoy wireless strobe photography with full auto. Up to 3 groups can be controlled, and light ratio adjustment from 8:1 to 1:1 to 1:8 can be performed for groups A and B2.
Wide range of power options available
The main unit can use 4 AA alkaline, Ni-Cd, or batteries. It also supports a variety of external power packs, including 3 types of external power packs: Compact Battery Pack CP-E2, Stacked Battery Pack E, and Transistor Pack E.
