チェコの巨匠クーベリックが、1978年から1980年にかけての3シーズンにバイエルン放送響とCBSに録音したLP9枚分の演奏は、この名指揮者の最円熟期の芸術の深まりを刻印した名演ばかり。1979年11月と1980年10月に録音されたブルックナーの交響曲第4番「ロマンティック」と第3番は、このコンビによるブルックナーの主要交響曲録音プロジェクトの端緒となったもの。結局このプロジェクトは実現はしませんでしたが、残された2曲は細部まで緻密な気配りが行き届きながらも実に気宇壮大、自然との交感を感じさせるのはさすがに巨匠の手腕。第3番は今では珍しい1950年出版のエーザー校訂による第2稿、第4番はポピュラーなノーヴァク校訂の1878/80年稿を使用。ワーグナーはブルックナー第4番のLP発売時のフィルアップだった音源です。CBS（デイヴィッド・モットレー）とバイエルン放送局（フリードリヒ・ヴェルツ）との共同制作によりヨーロッパ屈指の音響を誇ったミュンヘンのヘルクレスザールにおけるセッションで収録された最初期のデジタル録音で、クーベリック生誕110年を記念してオリジナル・2トラック・デジタルソースからの新規DSDリマスター。
