Detailed Description
This is the first complete studio recording album after the death of guitarist Duane. "Brothers and Sisters," released in 1973, is completely different in feel from before. However, if another band had released it, this album would have been an immortal masterpiece. The Allman Brothers have shifted from gritty blues-rock to a more groovy Southern rock, and the influence of Dickey Betts and the new pianist, Chuck Leavell, is clearly visible. Betts contributed to the old-fashioned sound with "Ramblin' Man," "Southbound," and the classic instrumental piece "Jessica," and "Pony Boy," which seems to showcase his acoustic and Dobro work, closes the album. Greg's influence is not as strong as before, and is only slightly seen in "Come and Go Blues" and "Jelly Jelly." Original member bassist Berry Oakley passed away during these sessions, so his performance is only on two of the included tracks.
