ヴィクトリアン中期、可愛らしいサイズの薔薇文様のカードケースのご紹介です。
カードケースの中央に薔薇と小さな花が彫刻されております。反対側の中央のカルトゥーシュ (cartouche) に所有者の名前が彫られています。
ヴィクトリアン中期以降、訪問時のカードを入れるための銀製のケースが多く製作されました。メールや電話がない時代には訪問時に連絡先を記入したカードを持参しました。相手側が不在の際には裏側に用件やメモを書いて執事に手渡しました。優雅な時代が思い起こされます。
このカードケースは1853年製作の170年以上も前のカードケースになります。当時の訪問カードは今よりも小さいサイズであったようで、このカードケースは現代の「通常の名刺」、「女性名刺」、「クレジットカード」には対応できません。
名刺入れとしてお使いになる場合には「小型名刺」という小さ目のサイズになります。角を丸くした特別仕様の小型名刺や小さ目のショップカードでしたら個性的で印象に残るというメリットもあります。ご参考までに下記にサイズを記しておきました。
全体的にとても良いコンディションで、凹みや傷などはありません。開閉もスムーズです。全体に隙間なく手彫り彫刻がされており当時の銀細工師の技術の高さが伺えます。職人さんによる仕上げ磨きが施されているので銀の艶も良くとてもよく光ります。
特別なシーンに相応しい美しいヴィクトリアンの純銀カードケースです。
