Introducing a charmingly sized card case with a rose motif from the mid-Victorian era.
The center of the card case is engraved with a rose and small flowers. On the reverse side, a cartouche in the center is engraved with the owner's name.
From the mid-Victorian period onwards, many silver cases were produced to hold visiting cards. In an era without email or telephones, people carried cards with their contact information when visiting. If the recipient was absent, the card would be handed to the butler with the message or memo written on the back. This evokes an elegant era.
This card case was made in 1853, over 170 years ago. Visiting cards of that time appear to have been smaller than today's, and this card case cannot accommodate modern "standard business cards," "ladies' business cards," or "credit cards."
