Kure City in Hiroshima Prefecture, where "HUG KURE LAB. -Sewing Clé Lab-" is located, prospered as a navy town since the Meiji era.
There is still a Maritime Self-Defense Force base, and the company behind "HUG KURE LAB.," Fuji Uniform Co., Ltd., was founded in 1960 and has been manufacturing and selling uniforms and goods for the Japan Coast Guard and Maritime Self-Defense Force.
Utilizing the skills and equipment cultivated over more than 60 years, it opened in September 2021 as a place to develop and produce new products.
The first floor of the building, which houses sewing and embroidery factories, was renovated into a "showcase factory & lab," creating a space where the sewing scenes can be seen from outside through opened shutters.
The name "HUG" (Hagu) is derived from a sewing term meaning to sew or join fabric.
With the hope that this place will connect the town and people, it was named "HUG KURE LAB. -Sewing Clé Lab-".
