A collaborative compilation album between the jazz manga "BLUE GIANT" series, serialized in Shogakukan's "Big Comic" since 2013, and BLUE NOTE RECORDS, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
This release is a 2-disc compilation featuring Blue Note's masterpieces that resonate with the jazz depicted in "BLUE GIANT."
The album includes iconic tracks from Blue Note's modern jazz era, known for its commitment to signing and releasing new music from emerging artists, as well as universally recognized standard numbers. This compilation is enjoyable for both seasoned jazz fans and newcomers to the genre.
The jacket artwork is newly drawn by the manga's author, Shinichi Ishizuka. Additionally, the booklet will include a 10-page original story (planned) also drawn by the author.
■ BLUE GIANT SUPREME
Serialized in "Big Comic" since September 2016. This is the European arc of "BLUE GIANT," which was serialized in the same magazine from May 2013 to August 2016.
The story centers around Dai Miyamoto, a young man aiming to become the world's greatest jazz player. The author is Shinichi Ishizuka, known for the hit mountain climbing manga "Gaku."
"BLUE GIANT" has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival Manga Division and the 62nd Shogakukan Manga Award (General Category).
The "BLUE GIANT" series has sold over 5 million copies in total, with "BLUE GIANT" comprising 10 volumes and "BLUE GIANT SUPREME" currently having 7 volumes (and continuing).
The series is also influencing the real jazz scene, as evidenced by the release of this collaborative compilation album with "BLUE NOTE RECORDS," the world's oldest jazz label.
