July 6 is just around the corner… and after a long, arduous wait, Jujutsu Kaisen is finally back!

It’s been three long years since the premiere of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime in 2020, which took the world by storm and boosted the manga’s popularity. It even became the best-selling manga series in Japan for 2021 and 2022, surpassing popular titles like Demon Slayer and Tokyo Revengers.

Now that Yuji Itadori and the gang are back, what should we expect in the next season? Let’s find out! (Beware of spoilers!)

What should we expect in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?

#1: The Return of Satoru Gojo

Satoru Gojo

Satoru Gojo, as seen in the trailer.

It’s undeniable that Gojo is one of the most popular characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. Aside from being the strongest sorcerer alive, he is also by far the prettiest character in the series (just look at his eyes, seriously). Akutami Gege, the author, has expressed disdain towards Gojo on multiple occasions and even encouraged readers to dislike him. Surprisingly, despite his widespread appeal, Gojo has never claimed the top spot in the official popularity polls in Japan, although he consistently ranks within the top three.

But will we see more of Gojo in the second season? Definitely yes, because this season is a must-see for Gojo fangirls out there! In fact, you’ll see so much Gojo in this season that you won’t even see the protagonist Itadori until the second cour—it’s safe to say that Gojo is the protagonist for the first half of the season.

#2: Gojo and Suguru’s Past

Gojo and Suguru

In the last season, we saw Suguru Geto as the series’ main antagonist. But before Suguru became evil, he was a man of strong principles and shared a close friendship with Satoru Gojo.

The first part of the upcoming season will delve into the Hidden Inventory arc, which focuses on Gojo and Suguru's shared past as second-year students at Tokyo Jujutsu High School. Set in 2006, this arc takes us back to a time when Gojo and Suguru went on a crucial mission to safely escort Riko Amanai, the designated Star Plasma Vessel, to Master Tengen. This mission placed Riko in grave danger as she became the target of assassination attempts orchestrated by other curse user groups.

The Hidden Inventory arc will shed light on the dynamic between Gojo and Suguru during their time as allies, providing valuable insights into their characters and the events that shaped their relationship.

You can take a glimpse at the arc in the previews below:

In this arc, viewers will witness the profound impact of the mission's aftermath on the friendship and perspectives of two jujutsu sorcerers. Gojo, having faced the exploitation of his weaknesses in a previous battle, diligently works towards rectifying those vulnerabilities. On the other hand, Suguru finds himself questioning his own principles, a critical juncture that eventually leads him down a misguided path. The consequences of these personal journeys will shape the characters and drive the narrative forward.

#3: Toji Fushiguro’s Debut

Toji Fushiguro as the infamous “Sorcerer Killer”

If there’s a character that fans had been waiting for so long to be seen in the anime, there can only be one person: Toji Fushiguro, or should we say… Toji Zen’in, as he was previously a part of the prestigious Zen’in family.

Toji is the father of Megumi Fushiguro, and he took his wife’s surname when he got married. Born without cursed energy, he was unable to utilize cursed techniques, which placed him in a challenging position within his clan. Nevertheless, his lack of cursed energy did not equate to weakness. In fact, he was so strong that he ended up becoming the infamous “Sorcerer Killer” for having killed numerous jujutsu sorcerers.

In the Hidden Inventory arc, he was a part of the Star Religious Group, one of the groups who were chasing after the Star Plasma Vessel. He served as the primary antagonist in the arc, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated showdown against Gojo!

#4: Spectacular Battles

If you're eagerly anticipating the thrilling battles in Jujutsu Kaisen, you're in for a treat! This season promises an abundance of awe-inspiring fights, including the highly anticipated clash between Gojo and Toji in the first part of the series. These two characters stand as the pinnacle of strength within the series, ensuring an exhilarating spectacle.

Gojo vs. Toji

However, the most astonishing battles are yet to come, occurring in the subsequent arc known as the Shibuya Incident. This arc picks up immediately after the events of the previous season and delves into the occurrences that unfolded in Shibuya on October 31, 2018. Once again, the focus is on Gojo as the alliance between cursed spirits and curse users, masterminded by Mahito and Suguru Geto, finally takes action in their bid to seal Satoru Gojo.

The most anticipated battle in this arc is definitely the fight between Megumi Fushiguro and his father, Toji. It was supposed to be an impossible feat, since Toji has already been dead at the start of the series, but his soul was brought back to life due to a cursed technique. What will be the conclusion to this epic fight?

#5: Catchy Theme Songs

Jujutsu Kaisen has consistently delivered outstanding opening and ending songs, and the second season continues this trend. The previous season's opening theme, "Kaikaikitan" by Eve, was widely regarded as one of the best anime openings, raising expectations for the second season's theme songs to achieve similar iconic status.

In the first part of the season, the opening song is "Ao no Sumika" by Tatsuya Kitani, while the ending song is "Akari" by Soushi Sakiyama. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of these theme songs, hoping that they will capture the essence of Jujutsu Kaisen and add to the overall experience of the series. With the track record of impressive music in the previous season, it is likely that these new songs will continue to captivate the audience and contribute to the show's phenomenal soundtrack.

#6: More Suffering

Huh? More suffering?

Certainly, since the Shibuya Incident arc is a pivotal point in the series where the story takes a significant turn for the worse.

Beloved characters meet their demise, leaving fans grieving for their loss. Additionally, one of the protagonists remains missing in action, adding a sense of uncertainty and concern about their fate, particularly for those following the manga.

One of the most popular characters in the series also ended up being sealed away in a box for an extended period of time. This development has become a subject of jokes and memes among fans, as it really took years before this character was freed from the sealed box.

The Shibuya Incident arc delivers a series of significant blows and challenges, plunging the story into a deeper and more somber territory.

What do you think?

Will Gojo be able to defeat Toji Fushiguro?

What happened in the Hidden Inventory arc that made Suguru rethink his principles?

Who was that popular character who got sealed in a box?
