■BIC: The Pioneer of Disposable Ballpoint Pens
In 1945, Marcel Bich founded the writing instrument company BIC in France with Édouard Buffard, and they began their partnership.
The ballpoint pen, invented in America in 1888 by John J. Loud, was later acquired by László Bíró of Hungary.
Foreseeing the great potential of the ballpoint pen, Bich purchased Bíró's patent, continued to improve it, and launched the world's first disposable ballpoint pen, the BIC Cristal.
The BIC brand rapidly gained popularity with the slogan, "A reliable ballpoint pen at an affordable price."
Following this, in 1961, the BIC Orange, a ballpoint pen that remains a long-seller even today, was introduced.
In 1970, multi-color ballpoint pens were born.
