Relentlessly Pursuing "The Best"A Commitment to Seeking the Ultimate Kabuto
Born in Asakusa, Tokyo, in 1954. In 1972, he apprenticed under his father, the second-generation Jitsumasa, and in 1983, he succeeded to the name of the third-generation Bessho Jitsumasa. In 1993, he repaired the gold fittings of the nagamochi stored at Kawagoe Kita-in Temple.Since then, he has produced and exhibited numerous works, including the "Denpo Kōshō Masanaga-kō Gusoku," "San-kuwagata Maetate no Kabuto-tsuki Dōmaru Gusoku," Tokugawa Ieyasu-kō's "Daikoku Bōto-gata Kabuto," Toyotomi Hideyoshi-kō's "Kuro-urushi Maran no Kabuto," and Kuroda Nagamasa-kō's "Kuro Ryō Ginpaku-oshi no Kabuto."In 2009, he expanded his range of activities by meticulously replicating Saito Sanemori's kabuto, a treasure of Tada Shrine in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Even parts such as the kabuto bowl and small metal fittings, which are now primarily made by machine, are all handcrafted by Jitsumasa. We believe that there is a unique charm that can only be achieved through handcrafting, both in the past and present.Even slight imperfections, not perfectly straight, add to the authentic feel and handcrafted quality of the kabuto from the time it was used.He visits museums, examines actual kabuto firsthand, conducts thorough research, and then creates his pieces based on his understanding of how they were made.As an armor craftsman, he holds the conviction to "continue creating pieces that satisfy customers" and "the best possible work that I can do."
