Relentlessly "Pursuing Excellence"
A Commitment to Crafting the Finest Kabuto
Born in Asakusa, Tokyo, in 1954. In 1972, he apprenticed under his father, the second-generation Jitsusei, and in 1983, he inherited the name of the third-generation Bessho Jitsusei.
In 1993, he repaired the metal fittings of the long chest housed at Kawagoe Kita-in Temple.
Since then, he has created and presented numerous works, including the Masanari Ki-no-Masa Armor, the Do-maru Armor with a Helmet featuring Three Kuwagata Crests, Tokugawa Ieyasu's "Daikoku Bōto-gata Kabuto" (Helmet shaped like a Daikoku god's headcloth), Toyotomi Hideyoshi's "Kuro-urushi Maran-no Kabuto" (Black Lacquered Helmet with Maran Design), and Kuroda Nagamasa's "Kuro Ryōginpaku-oshi no Kabuto" (Black Helmet with Silver Leaf).
In 2009, he expanded his activities by creating a replica of Saito Sanemori's helmet, a treasure of Tadatasha Shrine in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Even parts such as the helmet bowl and small metal fittings, which are now primarily made by machines, are all handcrafted by Jitsusei.
We believe that there is a unique charm that can only be achieved through handcrafting, both in the past and present.
Even slight imperfections, not perfectly straight, add to the authentic feel and handcrafted charm of the kabuto from the time it was used.
He visits museums, meticulously studies actual kabuto with his own eyes, and creates them after carefully considering how they were made.
As an armor craftsman, he holds the conviction to continue creating "items that satisfy customers" and "the best possible items that I can make."
"Momoe-zashi" (Hundred-layer Stitching): Just like authentic armor, a spirally sewn cloth is attached to the underside of the helmet bowl by hand.
