Born in Asakusa, Tokyo, in 1954. In 1972, he apprenticed under his father, the second-generation Jitsumasa, and in 1983, he inherited the name of the third-generation Bessho Jitsumasa.In 1993, he repaired the metal fittings of the long chest stored at Kawagoe Kita-in Temple.Since then, he has produced and exhibited numerous works, including the Masanari Kono Yoroi, the Domaru Yoroi with a Kabuto featuring three Kuwagata (helmet horns), Tokugawa Ieyasu's "Daikoku Bōto-gata Kabuto," Toyotomi Hideyoshi's "Kuro urushi Maran no Kabuto," and Kuroda Nagamasa's "Kuro Ryō Ginpakuoshi no Kabuto."In 2009, he expanded his range of activities by meticulously replicating Saito Sanemori's kabuto, a treasure of Tadatasha Shrine in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Even parts such as the kabuto bowl and small metal fittings, which are now primarily made by machines, are all handcrafted by Jitsumasa.We believe that there is a unique charm that can only be achieved through handcrafting, both in the past and present.Even slight imperfections, not perfectly straight, add to the authentic feel and handcrafted charm of the kabuto from the time it was used.He visits museums, studies actual kabuto firsthand, and creates them after carefully considering how they were made.As an armor craftsman, he holds the conviction that he wants to continue creating "items that satisfy customers" and "the best that I can possibly make."
"Momoezashi" (hundred-layer stitching): Just like authentic armor, a spirally sewn fabric is attached to the underside of the bowl by hand.
