Dedicated to creating "good things"A commitment to pursuing the finest helmets
Born in Asakusa, Tokyo, in 1954 (Showa 29).In 1972 (Showa 47), apprenticed under his father, the second-generation Jisso Minmasa. In 1983 (Showa 58), he succeeded to the third-generation Bessho Jisso Minmasa.
In 1993 (Heisei 5), repaired the longcase fittings stored at Kameoin in Kawagoe.Since then, he has produced and exhibited numerous works, including:- The armor of the Denpo Mokusei public armor set- A helmet with a San-kugata maetate and a do-maru armor- Tokugawa Ieyasu’s "O-Kuro Atama Fukurata-gata Kabuto" (large black headgear-shaped helmet)- Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s "Black Lacquered Horse-ran Helmet"- Kuroda Nagamasa’s "Black Silver Leaf Foil Helmet"
In 2009 (Heisei 21), he replicated the helmet of Minmori Saito, a treasure of Tada Shrine in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, through detailed copying, expanding his activities in various fields.
All parts such as helmet bowls and small fittings, which are mainly machine-produced nowadays, are handcrafted entirely by Minmasa. He believes that both in the past and present, there is a unique flavor only achievable through handwork.Even slight distortions that are not perfectly straight add to the authentic hand-made atmosphere of the helmets, reminiscent of the craftsmanship during their period of use.
He visits museums, studies real helmets firsthand, and considers how they are made before creating his works. As a armor craftsman, he is committed to continuously making "things that satisfy customers" and "the best possible items he can produce," driven by his conviction.
