■ Conductor Antonello Manacorda, currently gaining intense attention in Europe. Born in Turin, he started as a violinist studying under renowned teachers Krebbars and Gulli. After working as a concertmaster for the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra as a close associate of Abbado, he turned to conducting. Since 2011, as chief conductor of the Kammerakademie Potsdam (KAP), he has rapidly grown this chamber orchestra into one of Europe's leading ensembles.
■ The string parts employ period performance practices, and the brass and timpani use historical instruments, resulting in lively, spirited performances rich in expressiveness and singing quality, with detailed articulation mainly in the string sections, reflecting his background as a violinist. This is the first installment of Beethoven symphony complete recordings, following the completion of all works by Schubert and Mendelssohn, scheduled for completion in 2024. The works are highly detailed and seem to shine with new brilliance.
