湖東三山として知られる東近江市の百済寺では、1573年、織田信長に焼き討ちにあうまで酒造りが行われていました。
大寺院で醸造された高品質のお酒は「僧坊酒」と呼ばれ日本酒の起源とも言われています。
百済寺樽はその僧坊酒の1つで、室町時代には幕府や朝廷にも献上されたくさんの人に愛されたお酒です。
復活したこの新しい「百済寺樽」は、百済寺町で大切に育てた玉栄を使い、喜多酒造さんが醸しています。
