Performance: Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & ChoirConductor: Ton KoopmanRecorded at: Pieterskerk, Utrecht, Netherlands; Grote Kerk, Naarden; Stadscafe de Waag, Doesburg
Superb organ performance and conducting by master Koopman, who brilliantly expresses the essence of Bach!A profound video capturing the solemn performances held in churches, featuring six selected famous cantatas from Bach's extensive cantata collection, including the "Coffee Cantata."
● This is a video collection where you can see Ton Koopman, the Dutch organist, harpsichordist, and conductor, who received acclaim for his CD release "Bach: Complete Cantatas" from Warner Classics, conducting while playing the organ. The collection includes six cantatas, such as the famous "Coffee Cantata," which satirizes the coffee craze popular in Bach's time. With the exception of one piece, each track begins with Koopman's commentary on the music, making it particularly interesting for Bach fans.
● Ton Koopman was born in the Netherlands in 1944 and studied organ, harpsichord, and musicology. In 1979, he founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and in 1992, established the Amsterdam Baroque Choir. Through his performances and recordings of Bach's sacred works and Mozart's symphonies, he became a central figure in the original instrument performance movement. In 2000, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Utrecht University in the Netherlands for his scholarly work on Bach's cantatas and passions. In 2003, he left the Erato label, with which he had made numerous recordings, and established his own label.
