In 1996, the Japan Organic & Natural Foods Association (the predecessor of JAS) dispatched inspectors who certified that the tea from production to packaging was genuinely organically cultivated, and Japan’s first "Organic Certification" was granted.
At that time, when many products claimed to be "organic" without proper certification, this was a groundbreaking event and received significant media coverage.
- Why JAS-certified products remain affordable despite strict standards:
Following green tea, in 1998, black tea and barley tea also obtained "Organic Certification."
They successfully passed the 2000 JAS revision law, which adopted stricter standards inherited from JONA, and have continuously acquired organic JAS certification. Currently, over 40 products have received this certification.
