■ B?la Fleck(ベラ・フレック)1958年生まれ、米ニューヨーク出身。世界的なバンジョー奏者で、ブルーグラスにロック、ジャズ、ワールドミュージックなど多様なジャンルを織り交ぜた「プログレッシブ・ブルーグラス」の代表的プレイヤー。
高校卒業と同時に本格的な音楽活動を開始、1979年に1stソロアルバムをリリースし、本作からプログレッシブ・ブルーグラスの作曲をスタートさせる。
1988年にはビクター・ウッテンと共にベラ・フレック＆フレックトーンズを結成。2ndアルバムである"Flight of the Cosmic Hippo"はビルボードのコンテンポラリー・ジャズアルバムチャートで1位を獲得し、プログレッシブ・ブルーグラスの存在を更に世に広めることに成功した。
キャリアの中でソロ、バンド、多彩なコラボレーション・客演を通し、プログレッシブ・ブルーグラスを常に進化させ続け、数多のグラミー賞を受賞しているベラ・フレックだが、2023年、盟友であるエドガー・メイヤー等と共に新プロジェクトを始動。そして待望のニューアルバム『As We Speak』を5/12(金)にリリース。
