未発表音源を含む、幻のライブ・パフォーマンスが現代に蘇る！！エクスペリメンタル、ディスコ、ガラージ、ポップ、フォーク...レフトフィールドを縦横無尽に駆け回った天才にして異端児、アーサー・ラッセル。1970〜80年代のNYアンダーグラウンドシーンで数々の伝説を残し、92年のエイズによる没後、彼の卓越した才能は改めて脚光を浴びた。前衛的かつ実験的な彼の作品は、未発表音源をはじめ、数多くの再発盤やコンピレーション音源でも見出され、更には書籍や映画に至るまで、幅広い媒体を通して彼の音楽性、ひいては人物像そのものが、現在進行形で影響を与え続けている。
本作もその例に漏れず、未発表音源に加え、2020年にカセットとデジタルのみでリリースされた音源が収録されている。そして、これらの音源がアーサー・ラッセルの代名詞的作品にして最高傑作『WorldOfEcho』の基盤となった2つのソロ・ライブ・パフォーマンスであるという点において、彼の審美眼に対する理解を更に追求するための必聴盤と言える作品となっている。
ミニマリズム・ドローン音楽の先駆者としても知られる、NY実験音楽の巨匠フィル・ニブロックが、アーサー・ラッセルと共に企画・プロデュースし、ExperimentalIntermedia（フィルがディレクションを務める、NY拠点の前衛音楽財団）にて録音が行われた本作は、アーサーが1984年に行った『SKETCHESFORWORLDOFECHO』と、1985年の『OPENVOCALPHRASESWHERESONGSCOMEINANDOUT』と題された、2つのソロ・パフォーマンスが未編集のまま収録されている。この2つのパフォーマンス音源が基盤となり、BatterySoundで録音されたスタジオ音源やヴォーカルと統合されて完成したのが、彼にとって生涯初となるフルレングスのソロ作品として1986年に発表され、現代音楽家としての評価を決定づけた『WorldofEcho』である。
未発表音源を含む幻のライブ・アルバムとしてリリースされる本作は、２枚組CDと２枚組LPにて、それぞれ内容、タイトル、アートワーク共に異なる形で発売。２枚組LPでは、CDと同じく初リリースの『OPENVOCALPHRASESWHERESONGSCOMEINANDOUT』全パフォーマンスが、Side1からSide3までに収録され、Side4では、『SKETCHESFORWORLDOFECHO』のパフォーマンスから「ChangingForest」と「SunlitWater」を収録。
輸入盤CD、LP共にフルカラーのインサートと、アーサー・ラッセルのアーカイブを数多く手掛ける〈AudikaRecords〉の創設者、スティーブ・クヌーソンによるライナーノーツが封入され、さらに国内仕様盤CDと帯付仕様LPには、別途日本語解説書が封入される。
