Takeshi Takeda
Born in 1967. Graduate of Rikkyo University, Faculty of Arts, and former member of the mountaineering club. Joined The Asahi Shimbun in 1992. After serving as a reporter at the Toyama Branch, Deputy Manager of the Tokyo Head Office Photo Department, and Editorial Committee member, he retired in 2012 and moved to Yakushima, a World Natural Heritage site. During his time at the newspaper, he accompanied the 45th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition for one year and four months from the end of 2003, covering news and staying through the winter at Showa Station. After returning to Japan, he began environmental reporting with a focus on global warming, covering Greenland, the Nepalese Himalayas, and the Canadian Arctic. He is currently based in Yakushima, reporting for The Asahi Shimbun and Kagoshima Broadcasting. His book "The Japanese Living in the Northernmost Part of the Earth" (Froebel-kan) received the 53rd Children's Welfare Cultural Award and the 57th Sankei Children's Publishing Culture Award.
