Soap labeled “Kneading weight 100g” (like Tamagawa Komachi) indicates the weight at the time of shaping. The reason for the “kneading” notation is that the product is not immediately finished after shaping; it undergoes aging and drying before packaging. The weight at purchase or use is typically 10-20% less than the initial weight.

Born as an aging care soap for women in their 30s and older, Tamagawa Komachi is a one-of-a-kind skincare product in the world. This is because it uniquely combines three exceptional elements.

First, it is based on the ultimate organic (Morganic) herbs cultivated by President Kiyoshi Yamazawa of the Herbal Research Institute. This alone makes it a product full of dedication.
Yamazawa previously worked in agricultural materials in the Shonai Plain of Yamagata Prefecture, during a time when pesticides were widely used to increase rice yields. Back then, the negative aspects of pesticides were not recognized, and their use expanded nationwide to boost productivity.

However, when his son developed atopic dermatitis, Yamazawa’s curiosity led him to investigate the cause, which he discovered was related to his own environment.
He realized that he was washing his son’s clothes with work clothes soaked in pesticides, and he also noticed that snails and loaches, which used to inhabit the rice paddies before pesticide use, had disappeared.

From that point, he reversed his stance, moving from promoting pesticide use to advocating for natural recovery of the environment and curing his son’s atopic dermatitis.
He sought herbal medicinal effects for the soap to help his son. Naturally, the herbs are cultivated pesticide-free, but Yamazawa’s remarkable achievement was going further—examining even the fertilizers used in organic farming.
Organic fertilizers often contain livestock manure, which is treated with antibiotics. To eliminate this influence, he raised pigeons used in French cuisine and used their droppings as fertilizer. The herbs cultivated by Yamazawa are grown using this closed-loop farming method, making them truly special.

The characteristics of these herbs are most evident in Tamagawa Komachi lotion. It is fragrance-free, with a gentle, healing scent derived from the natural aroma of the ingredients. The lotion contains three extracts: lavender, chamomile, and rosemary.

When a couple from Tokyo visited the Akita Prefecture booth at an event, the man said he disliked lavender scent. I explained that Tamagawa Komachi lotion’s lavender aroma is very gentle and not sharp, so he should try it. After trying, he said, “That’s true. I can handle this scent!” This is the special cultivated herbs by Yamazawa.

Second, the soap is based on “Shittori Soap,” which contains Yakeyama lava, boasting one of the highest infrared radiation rates in Japan, and rare, valuable UMF 15+ Manuka honey from New Zealand.
This “Shittori Soap” alone is excellent, and I thought it was complete. However, in Yamagata Prefecture, a local specialty called “Benibana” (safflower) was also available.

Third, the amount of silk in the “Shittori Soap” was increased, and safflower was added. Safflower has long been a local specialty of Yamagata Prefecture and was also used in safflower soap.
Safflower contains vitamin E, linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, chlorophyll (which eliminates free radicals), and flavonoids, which are believed to have antioxidant effects.
Therefore, I decided to create an aging care soap for women in their 30s and older, naming it “Kiwami (Ultimate).” Confident that there is no better soap, I named it “Kiwami.”

With this, the lineup of three skin age-appropriate soaps was completed: the “Refreshing” for babies, the “Moisturizing” for teens and twenties, and the “Kiwami” for middle-aged and older women.
