プロジェクト＜JazzIsDead＞最新シリーズがスタート！〈JazzIsDead〉、セカンド・シリーズ開幕！！
コロナ禍の中、レーベルの原点でもあるライヴ・イヴェントが開催できない苦しい状況においても無事に完走したファースト・シリーズ全10作品により、LAアンダーグラウンドやジャズの界隈でいま最も衆目を集める存在となった〈JazzIsDead〉が早くもセカンド・シリーズをスタート。
開幕を告げる鐘となるのは、前回と同じく、セカンド・シリーズでリリースが予定されているアルバムから1曲ずつを収録したコンピレーション。今回のラインナップには、コズミックなジャズ・ファンク?フュージョンの先駆者であるロニー・リストン・スミスを皮切りに、〈BlackJazz〉からのリーダー作や、同レーベルの数々の名盤で印象的な演奏を残したベーシストのヘンリー・フランクリン、同じく〈BlackJazz〉を代表する歌姫にして、ファースト・シリーズでもアルバムをリリースしたダグ・カーンの奥方であったジーン・カーン、さらには伝説的なブラック・ジャズ・レーベル〈Tribe〉の創始者であるフィル・ラネリン、ウェンデル・ハリソンまでもが登場。
これだけでも、レア・グルーヴ?ブラック・ジャズの好事家たちにとっては夢のような企画ながら、ジャンルや世代を越境したコラボレーションをその魅力とする〈JazzIsDead〉らしく、2020年に惜しくも亡くなった、フェラ・クティの右腕としてアフロビートを創造したトニー・アレンや、1973年に名門〈Impulse〉に唯一残したアルバム『EnMedio』がラテン/チカーノ・ジャズの傑作としてLA界隈で今なお語り継がれるギャレット（ゲイリー）・サラチョもそのラインナップに名を連ねる。そして、もしかしたらセカンド・シリーズにおけるダークホース、最大の聴きどころになるかもしれないのは現行LAジャズ・シーン注目のコレクティヴ、カタリストとのコラボレーション。これまでのリリースでも、カタリストのドラマー、グレッグ・ポールが随所でプレイしていたため、気心知れた関係故に他の大御所陣との作品とは一味違うサウンドに乞うご期待。前回同様、最後にはエイドリアンとアリのユニット、ザ・ミッドナイト・アワーによる新曲も収録。
