This is a hanging scroll of Jōzai Daishi, a side Buddha of the Sōtō sect.
Jōzai Daishi refers to Kōso Dōgen Zenji, who founded Eihei-ji Temple of the Sōtō sect, and is enshrined on the upper shelf of the Buddhist altar, to the right as you face it.
The subdued, chic design and mounting blend well with any style of Buddhist altar. It has a different charm than brightly colored hanging scrolls.
Manufactured in Gifu Prefecture, a region known for its hanging scrolls.
