Kannon Bosatsu is one of the bodhisattvas in Buddhism, widely worshipped since ancient times in East Asian Buddhism, especially in Japan and China.
Kannon Bosatsu is called "Kannon-sama" and has been widely loved by the people since old times. In the "Kannon Sutra," Kannon Bosatsu is said to be a bodhisattva who grants fearlessness, and is a Buddha of this world who saves all sentient beings (shujou) and provides benefits in this life.
A guardian principal deity that brings broad benefits. It can be used as a principal deity for a butsudan (Buddhist altar), a talisman against evil, or as an attractive interior decoration, and is sized for enjoyment in daily life.
This Kannon Bosatsu statue is made from natural high-quality boxwood, carefully carved by artisans. The fine-grained, pale yellow boxwood has been regarded since ancient times as an excellent high-grade material for craftwork.

What is Byaku-e Kannon?
It is named Byaku-e Kannon because of the meaning "draped in white robes."
In contrast to the transformative Kannon born in India, there are the Thirty-Three Kannon, worshipped only in China and Japan.
The Thirty-Three Kannon, who change their appearance to save people, were compiled during the Edo period to match the number "thirty-three" of the bodhisattva who rescues in various forms.
Byaku-e Kannon is one type of this bodhisattva.
It is also said to be the wife of Amida Nyorai (Amitabha Buddha).
It is also considered the mother of Kannon Bosatsu. Therefore, it is often depicted with a feminine expression.

Appearance of Byaku-e Kannon (White Robe Kannon)
It is common to see it wearing white robes and covering the head with a white cloth like a veil.
This appearance is said to have been devised during the Tang Dynasty in China. Many statues have a very feminine appearance.
