Woody Joe Tokaido 53 Stations Series: Kanbara-juku Wooden Model Non-scale Assembly Kit
This kit condenses traditional Japanese scenery into a compact form, featuring precision laser-cut parts for easy assembly. By using different colors of wood, it recreates the landscape as depicted by Utagawa Hiroshige.
**About the Tokaido 53 Stations**The Tokaido was one of the five major highways established by the Tokugawa Shogunate during the Edo period to unify the country. It spanned 492 km, connecting Nihonbashi in Tokyo to Sanjo Ohashi in Kyoto. Fifty-three post stations (shukuba) were established along the route to facilitate the transport of travelers and goods. Utagawa Hiroshige's ukiyo-e prints depicting these highway scenes are famous and were frequently used as subjects for waka and haiku poetry.
**About Kanbara-juku**Kanbara-juku was the 15th post station counting from Nihonbashi. It is located in what is now Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City. It faced the Fuji River to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the south. With one honjin (main inn), two waki-honjin (secondary inns), and 45 hatago (lodging houses), it bustled with travelers crossing the Fuji River.
This station served as the setting for Utagawa Hiroshige's "Evening Snow at Kanbara" from the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido. As the only snow scene in the series, it depicts a world where one can almost hear the sound of travelers treading through the deep, silently falling snow on a quiet night.
