This is a hanging scroll for a Shingon sect Buddhist altar, called "Shingon Thirteen Buddhas," to be displayed near the Buddhist altar for Obon, Higan, and memorial services.
It features the Buddhas who preside over the thirteen main memorial services from the first seven days after death to the thirty-third anniversary, along with Kobo Daishi, the founder of the Shingon sect.
Displaying it near the Buddhist altar or Obon shelf creates a solemn atmosphere and enhances the Obon season's feel.
While it can be displayed for all Buddhist events, it can also be used for daily display to pray for the safety of your family and the prosperity of your household.
