It's a "Reisen-to" light used to decorate the altar during the new moon or Obon, placed on either side of the memorial tablet.
When lit, bubbles rise through a space of light, creating a luxurious and solemn atmosphere.

The main body comes assembled, so you can attach the "yoraku" (hanging decorations) and plug it in to use.

[Handling Precautions]
Be careful of the lantern shade getting wet and of ignition from incense sticks and candles.
Turn off the light when you go to sleep.
When storing, first remove dust with a duster, soft brush, or cloth. Do not use chemical cloths, water, detergents, volatile chemicals, or insecticides.
