This is a bright-colored Buddhist altar made with popular oak wood, which is also used for furniture.
The final finishing process, which greatly influences the quality of the Buddhist altar, is also completed by domestic craftsmen to bring out the texture (such as the wood grain) of the oak wood to the fullest.
Shizuoka Prefecture began with lacquerware production during the Edo period, and by the mid-Meiji era, the production of Western-style furniture had started.
Buddhist altars began to be manufactured as a derivative of furniture during the Showa era, and production has continued to flourish alongside furniture to this day.
Because Gratina has a simple design, attention is paid to details, such as the soft rounded edges, uniform paint matching each piece of wood, and carefully crafted thick and curved boards.
