Tamiya 1/700 Waterline Series No. 316 Imperial Japanese Navy Light Cruiser Kuma Plastic Model 31316
Based on the "big ship, big gun" philosophy that battleships were the main players in naval warfare, the Imperial Japanese Navy planned to build the world's strongest fleet, known as the "Eight-Eight Fleet," centered around eight battleships and eight battlecruisers. This is a plastic model assembly kit of the Kuma, the first ship of the 5,500-ton class light cruisers of the Kuma class, which were built to support capital ships in this fleet and completed in 1920. The model recreates the ship as it appeared between 1939 and 1940, faithfully reproducing the typical style of an Imperial Japanese Navy light cruiser of the Taisho era, with its rounded bow, three upright funnels, simple bridge, and 14cm single-mounted guns. The hull molding, including the degaussing cable and anchor chains, is sharply finished. It would also be interesting to modify the masts and other parts to recreate the ship's appearance at the start of the war. Total length when completed is 230mm.
