Traveling through the autumn Takamatsu Kotoku Line with the new model limited express diesel train, 2700 series!
On August 6, 2019, JR Shikoku's new limited express diesel train, the 2700 series, began commercial operation. This marks the debut of a train equipped with a controlled natural pendulum device, a feature not seen since the Kiha 187 series.
The Uzushio 7 departs from Takamatsu Station, diverging from the Yosan Line onto the Takamatsu Line. Using the characteristic pendulum device of the 2700 series, it passes through curves at high speed.
Running through tranquil scenery, crossing the Oosaka Pass into Tokushima Prefecture. The train joins the Naruto Line, passing by lotus fields, crossing the Yoshino River, and then connecting with the Tokushima Line to arrive in Tokushima.
After turning back, it becomes Uzushio 10, departing from Tokushima Station and returning to Takamatsu. The train crosses the mountains along the same route it just traveled, with a light step.
It repeatedly passes by oncoming trains, heading toward Takamatsu. It is also interesting that the stopping patterns differ between the outbound and return trips.
The 2700 series is planned to replace the 2000 series in the future, with operations also scheduled to Tosa Kuroshio Railway and as far as Okayama.
This is a valuable record of the debut of the new type of pendulum diesel train introduced in the first year of Reiwa.
