Drinking powdered green tea is a very rational way to ingest 100% of the tea leaves into your body. However, pesticides that are also ingested 100% with the tea can accumulate in the body over many years and are said to be one cause of unexplained health problems. The raw tea leaves must be grown naturally. Therefore, at the Organic JAS certified Osaki Farm in Yakushima, we cultivate them using natural methods in a great natural environment with zero airborne pesticides, without using any pesticides or chemical fertilizers permitted under Organic JAS standards. Spiders' webs and praying mantises also play a part in tea production.

For powdered green tea, which incorporates 100% of the tea leaves into the body, a completely different standard value, zero residual pesticides, is required. These are tea leaves grown naturally. By covering them with a black shading net (kanreisha), bitterness is suppressed and the color of the tea leaves improves, but sunlight is blocked, hindering the production of catechins, which are components of bitterness, so we deliberately do not use it. We also do not use any nitrogen-based chemical fertilizers that improve the color of the tea leaves and increase umami, so the liquor color is not a vibrant green. The taste is naturally rich in catechins and slightly bitter. To avoid clumping, which is inherent to powdered green tea, we grind it slightly coarsely, so it does not dissolve like matcha.
Yakushima Island, with its history of great nature continuing since ancient times, is registered as a World Natural Heritage site as an island with a rare ecosystem where humans coexist with nature. Tea cultivation in Yakushima also involves coexistence between people, plants, and insects. While we sometimes suffer severe damage from insect pests depending on the year, moderate damage actually increases the catechins in the tea leaves and creates an optimal environment for fermented teas such as black tea.
