After celebrating the 25th anniversary of his American debut in 1953 with a solo recital, Horowitz withdrew from public performance. During this period, he recorded three LPs for RCA, and after transferring to Columbia Records, he resumed full-scale recording activities, but he did not return to the stage, and 12 years passed. Then, on May 9, 1965, Horowitz finally broke his 12-year silence with a recital at Carnegie Hall. All performances were recorded live, and released as a two-LP set on October 10 of that year, winning three Grammy Awards, becoming a legendary masterpiece.
