This is a mini-sized altar shelf (※) used for decorating Obon displays such as for the new Obon and first Obon.
We developed this because even those who do not have space to display a floor-standing altar shelf can still welcome their ancestors in their own way.
You can enshrine a memorial tablet, and decorate it with your preferred shape of lanterns and offerings.
There are walnut-tone options (this page) that match furniture and flooring,
and Tamo Light-tone options,so please choose the color that suits your room.
The shelf part has grooves where you can place the middle board of a portable memorial tablet or the stand paper for the Thirteen Buddhas.
※ For a middle board with a width of 4cm, up to 8 can be displayed.
Additionally, the base part can accommodate
"Obon Decoration Set Mini Easy Type"or can be used as a mat for tools, such as
"Width 28cm type within the Wa Bon series"which fits perfectly in width.
※ Please note that the 36cm width type will extend beyond the altar shelf.

During Obon, it is common to decorate not only the usual Buddhist altar but also to use a dedicated altar for Obon decorations.
The altar used during Obon is called a "Bon Dana" or "Spirit Shelf," where the memorial tablet is displayed on the top tier to welcome the ancestors.
This memorial tablet serves as a conduit (yorishiro) for the ancestors to return, so during Obon, offerings, decorations, and lanterns are arranged on the Bon Dana to welcome them.
