Product Description
Simply placing this underlay can refresh your tatami room.
Use it to rejuvenate sun-damaged tatami or as a cover to prevent soiling of new tatami mats.
It uses approximately 120 cm long domestically produced (Kyushu) Igusa, with about 91 cm utilized.
The border edge may appear slightly whitish (this is not sun damage, but the color of the base and tip of the Igusa).
Longer Igusa strands are considered more luxurious.
The tips of Igusa are reddish-brown, the base is white, and the middle is blue (green).
Using more high-quality blue parts in the middle results in a durable and beautiful finish.
Igusa will naturally develop a sun-tanned appearance over time, but those with more blue in the middle tend to tan evenly and attractively, developing a rich patina.
The Igusa is domestically produced (Kyushu), with each stalk being thick, having a thick epidermis, and fine fibers, making it elastic and highly durable.
Igusa has air purifying properties, helps regulate humidity, and is resistant to dirt.
It is treated with Aomori Hinoki (Japanese cypress) for antibacterial and deodorizing effects.
Both sides of the mat can be used, making it economical.
