Product Description
This is a rare checkered pattern tatami mat cover (only on the edging). Simply laying this cover can refresh a tatami room. Use it to refresh tatami that has been discolored by sunlight, or as a cover to protect new tatami from getting dirty. The manufacturer has modified their looms with proprietary technology to express the checkered pattern using only the natural colors and weave of the material. Recommended for those who find plain tatami covers uninspired and desire a more luxurious feel. Uses domestic igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture), approximately 110-115 cm in length. Approximately 88 cm of this length is used. Normally, the root end of the igusa is a strong whitish color. (This is not sun damage, but the color of the root and tip of the igusa.) This characteristic difference in color between the root and tip is utilized to create the checkered pattern. (Therefore, the checkered pattern is only possible within the range of the white root portion. The center part will be plain.) Longer igusa is considered higher quality. The tip of the igusa is reddish-brown, the root is white, and the middle is blue (green). Uses domestic igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture). Domestic igusa is thick, has a dense fiber with a thick surface, and is elastic and highly durable. Igusa has functions such as air purification and humidity control, and is resistant to dirt. The fabric surface has been treated with "Hiba Essence," extracted from Aomori Hiba trees, using the manufacturer's proprietary technology. Hiba Essence contains hinokitiol, a natural substance with extremely high antibacterial properties. (Compared to untreated products, it has antibacterial and deodorizing effects.) Both sides can be used, making it economical. *Please note that as this is a natural material and is processed by hand by artisans, there may be variations in shape and slight differences from the stated size.
