* Centered on Shakyamuni Buddha, with Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and Manjushri Bodhisattva. The various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will protect you.
* The boxwood is split vertically into two, then one of those halves is split vertically again. These three pieces are joined with hinges to create a three-panel opening.
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are carved on the inside of this three-panel opening.
This carved three-panel opening is called a "Shoson Butsugan."
In the central panel, Shakyamuni Buddha is in the center, surrounded by the Ten Great Disciples of Shakyamuni.
There are two Bodhisattvas offering tribute in the clouds at the top.
The right panel features Samantabhadra Bodhisattva at the center with four other figures, and the left panel features Manjushri Bodhisattva at the center with four other figures.
Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and Manjushri Bodhisattva are the attendant bodhisattvas to Shakyamuni Buddha.
