Description:This underlay is made from 100% Igusa, cultivated with reduced pesticides in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture.Features include:- Superior durability and resilience compared to regular Igusa, with long-lasting greenish-blue color.- As it ages and the sun causes fading, it gradually changes to a beautiful amber color.- It has the ability to absorb nitrogen dioxide, which is a cause of air pollution, and also works excellently to regulate room humidity.
Simply placing this underlay can refresh your tatami room.Use it to rejuvenate sun-damaged tatami or as a cover to prevent soiling of new tatami mats.
The product uses domestically produced Igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture), with a length of over 130 cm, which is classified as JAS 1 (a high-grade class among tatami mats). It is woven from carefully selected, high-quality, thick, and long Igusa, making it durable and resilient, with a comfortable volume that feels good on the skin.Approximately 95 cm of the 135 cm length is used.
This is a high-quality product made from long Igusa with minimal white parts at the border (the white parts are the base and tip of the Igusa, not sun-bleached).Longer Igusa is considered more luxurious. The color of Igusa varies: the tip is reddish-brown, the base is white, and the middle is blue (green).Using more high-quality blue middle parts results in a stronger, more beautiful finish.
Igusa naturally ages and darkens over time, but those with more blue middle parts tend to age evenly and beautifully, developing a rich patina.
This product is woven with thread-drawn weaving, similar to tatami mats.Compared to double-twisted weaving, it contains more threads per unit area, making it more durable. The surface is smooth, making it less likely to accumulate dust.
For long-term use and those seeking durability, thread-drawn weaving is recommended.
The Igusa used is domestically produced in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture.Japanese Igusa is thicker, with a tougher outer skin and finer fibers, providing excellent elasticity and durability.
Igusa has air purification and humidity regulation properties and is resistant to dirt.
Additionally, "Hiba Essence" extracted from Hiba wood from Aomori Prefecture has been processed onto the fabric surface using proprietary technology.Hiba Essence contains Hinokiol, a natural substance with extremely high antibacterial properties.(Compared to untreated products, it offers enhanced antibacterial and deodorizing effects.)
Both sides of the product can be used, making it economical.
*Please note:*As a natural material, and because each piece is handcrafted by artisans, there may be slight variations in shape and size compared to the listed dimensions. Thank you for your understanding.
