Description:
This is a tatami mat top made from 100% Igusa grown with reduced pesticide use in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture.
Features include:
- Superior durability and elasticity compared to regular Igusa, with longer-lasting green color.
- Even after sun exposure and fading, it gradually changes to a beautiful amber hue.
- It has the ability to absorb nitrogen dioxide, which is a cause of air pollution, and also works excellently to regulate room humidity.
Simply laying this mat top can refresh your tatami room.
It is ideal for revitalizing sun-damaged tatami or as a cover to prevent soiling of new tatami.
The product uses domestically produced Igusa (from Kumamoto Prefecture, Yatsushiro) with a length of over 130 cm, classified as JAS1 (a high-grade tatami mat surface).
Selected high-quality, thick, and long Igusa is woven densely, making it durable and resilient, with a comfortable volume for the skin.
Approximately 85 cm of the 130 cm length is used.
This is a high-quality product made from long Igusa with minimal white parts at the edging (the white parts are not sunburned but are the base and tip colors of the Igusa).
Longer Igusa is considered more luxurious.
The Igusa has a reddish-brown tip, a white base, and a blue (green) middle.
Using more of the high-quality blue middle part results in a sturdy and beautiful finish.
While Igusa naturally sun-bleaches over time, those with more blue middle parts tend to age evenly and attractively, developing a rich patina.
This product is woven using thread-drawn weaving, similar to tatami mat surface weaving.
Compared to double-twisted weaving, it contains more threads, making it more durable.
The surface is smooth, which reduces dust accumulation.
Recommended for those who want long-lasting use or seek high durability, as thread-drawn weaving is highly recommended.
The Igusa used is domestically produced in Kumamoto Prefecture, Yatsushiro.
Japanese-grown Igusa is thicker, with a tougher outer skin and finer fibers, providing excellent elasticity and durability.
Igusa has air purification properties, humidity regulation, and is resistant to dirt.
The surface has been processed with "Hiba Essence" extracted from Hiba wood from Aomori Prefecture, using the manufacturer's proprietary technology.
Hiba Essence contains Hinokitiol, a natural substance with extremely high antibacterial properties.
(Compared to untreated products, it offers enhanced antibacterial and deodorizing effects.)
Both sides of the product can be used, making it economical.
*Please note that as a natural material and handcrafted by artisans, there may be slight variations in shape and size from the specified dimensions. Thank you for your understanding.*
