Ships within 1-5 business days: This is the official exhibition catalog for a photography exhibition that focuses on the theme of "Yoko," the wife of photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, drawing from his vast body of work. The catalog features photographs of Yoko as the subject, as well as diverse works that strongly evoke her presence.
As Araki himself stated, "I became a photographer because of Yoko," the works created from the intense period of time spent with his wife Yoko, from their meeting in 1968 until her death in 1990, penetrate the core of photography and are bound to move the viewer's heart.
This catalog includes the complete 108 works from the rare, privately published photobook "Sentimental Journey," as well as previously unpublished positive works of Yoko before their marriage and new works created for this exhibition. Through Yoko, his most important subject, the catalog explores the relationship Araki values with his subjects and examines "shashin" (private photography), which is the essence of his work.
The title "Sentimental Journey" is also the title of a photobook published in 1971 and represents his photographic life, which continues even further from 2017. With essays by distinguished writers associated with Araki, this volume is poised to be the definitive edition among Araki's more than 500 photobooks.
? Included Works: "Sentimental Journey," "Tokyo ga Aki," "Shokuji," "Sentimental Journey, Fuyu no Tabi," "Sora Kei / Chikkei," "Mikkū," and others.
Also includes: Unpublished positive works from the 1960s featuring Yoko before their marriage, works themed around Yoko, Polaroids of his beloved cat Chiro, and the latest diary series shot in 2017.
