Author Biography (from "BOOK Author Information")
Eguchi, Takaya
1900-1977. Born in Aomori Prefecture. In December 1931, after a 45-day journey by sea and land from Moji Port, he traveled to Germany and enrolled in the Mary Wigman School of Dance. He studied "Neue Tanz," an advanced German style of modern dance. While enrolled, he held a dance performance at the Berlin Bachsaal, presenting "Operating Room," "Tango," and other works, receiving high acclaim. After returning to Japan, he established the Eguchi-Miya Dance Institute and advocated for "Shinko Buyo" (New Wave Dance), which created new culture and art, bringing a fresh breeze to the Western dance world.
Kanai, Fusae
Executive Director of the Modern Dance Association, Professor Emeritus at Japan Women's College of Physical Education. Leader of the Kanai Fusae Dance Company from 1968 to 2001. Representative works include "Woman of the Sand," "Wuthering Heights," and "Tree Soul." Awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette in 2003.
Imai, Shigeyuki
Composer, stage director. Chairman of the Modern Stage Art Association, Director of the Japan Flamenco Association. Chairman of the editorial and production committee for "Complete Edition: Orchestration." Coined the genre name "Buyo" (dance).
Sakamoto, Hideko
Dancer. Studied under Fusae Kanai. First place in the National Dance Competition, Minister of Education Award. Currently
