The original manga by Yoko Kamio is a legendary comic boasting over 55 million copies sold (36 volumes in total published by Shueisha Margaret Comics, with a complete edition of 20 volumes currently available). The drama series produced in Taiwan in 2001 became a massive hit, recording high viewership ratings in 13 countries and sparking a social phenomenon.
The 2005 remake, the Friday drama "Hana Yori Dango," which reimagined this internationally beloved work, starred Mao Inoue as the heroine Tsukushi Makino and Jun Matsumoto as Tsukasa Domyoji, the leader of the handsome "F4" quartet. Their casting was a perfect fit, leading to high viewership ratings! It recorded the highest average viewership rating for a continuous drama in the October 2005 season and generated significant buzz in DVD sales.
