Author Profile (from "BOOK Author Information")
Izumi, Kyōka
Born November 4, 1873, in Kanazawa. Real name, Kyōtarō. Lost his beloved mother at the age of nine. In 1890, he moved to Tokyo with the aspiration of becoming a novelist. After one year, he became a disciple of Ozaki Kōyō. After gaining recognition for his conceptual novels such as "The Operating Room" and "Night Patrolman," he turned towards the world of fantasy with works like "Ryūtan-tan" and "Kechō." In 1900, he published his representative work, "Kōya Hijiri." While deeply influenced by Edo literature, he established a unique position in the history of modern Japanese literature across the Meiji, Taishō, and Shōwa eras with his own world of eerie fantasy and romanticism, based on "longing for his deceased mother."
Nakagawa, Manabu
Born 1966 in Kyoto City. A Buddhist monk of the Jōdo-shū Nishiyama Zenrinji sect. Active as an illustrator since 1996. He provides "Wa-pop" illustrations for book cover designs and illustrations for books both domestically and internationally. He is also expanding his activities globally, having been featured in the London-based information magazine "MONOCLE," which is read in over 20 countries worldwide, and in special features on illustrators worldwide published by the German art publisher "TASCHEN" (This data was published at the time of this book's release).
