Among contemporary Japanese composers, Toshio Hosokawa (1955-) is undoubtedly the most highly regarded worldwide. His works often incorporate many Japanese elements (both in timbre and thought), and through his skillful and sincere use of musical language, they transcend linguistic barriers to reach people all over the world. The three works recorded here originate from different sources. "Yume wo oru" is based on faint memories and dreams from when he was in his mother's womb. The sound heard within the womb, an eternal cradle, is a "B-flat." He embarks on a great journey enveloped by this soft sound that seems to embrace everything. "Kaika" is a piece with flowers as its theme, a subject he excels at. It is a contemplation of the delicate and grand task of converting the immense energy required for a flower to bloom into the energy of life. And "Junkai suru umi." This work reflects the transformation of water's form into sound, depicting the phenomenon of "departing from the sea and returning to the sea" in an eternal cycle, solely through sound without words. Listeners will be able to contemplate many things with this album. A detailed commentary by the composer himself is included.
