The second installment in the "Japanese Guitar Works" series, born from the encounter between Naxos's renowned producer and director Norbert Kraft and Fukuda, is a collection of works by leading Japanese composers, including Toru Takemitsu. It features a diverse range of pieces that are delicate, rich, and possess traditional forms. The masterpiece "Soshunfu," arranged by Toru Takemitsu, exudes the original joy and a subtle lyrical atmosphere. Miyoshi's "Five Poems" is written in a poetic style that incorporates the pattern of haiku, while being influenced by French music. Jin Hirobe's dramatic "The Guitar Endures and Continues to Hope" was praised by the composer as "a performance where the meaning of the work is clearly conveyed to the listener down to the finest detail." Furthermore, Hosokawa's "Serenade," with its stimulating sound reminiscent of the koto, is performed with a different tuning than its premiere (Fukuda's own), eliciting an admiring message from the composer: "Such richness and beauty of musicality!" This time again, we sought a wonderful acoustic space and recorded in a church in Newmarket, a suburb of Toronto, Canada.
