Produced in 1959, this work is Disney Studio's most ambitious masterpiece, a magnificent work filled with brilliant waltz music, adapted from Tchaikovsky's ballet. The time is the 14th century. A sorceress, similar to the Queen in "Snow White," delivers an ominous prophecy to the king. The newborn Princess Aurora will prick her finger on a spinning wheel by sunset on her 16th birthday and will never "live happily ever after." However, thanks to the cheerful and slightly foolish fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, the prophecy is not entirely fulfilled. In this work, the protagonist princess is not very active (since she is asleep, it's impossible for her to be a captivating character). Instead of the sleeping princess, Prince Phillip, like the fairies, drives the story forward by fighting Maleficent, who transforms into a dragon. The battle between the prince and the dragon-shaped sorceress would be repeatedly referenced in works after this one. You can see the origin of the "triumph of good" in Disney's works in this film. Another point to note is the sorceress's castle. The scene, crowded with wild boars and imps indulging in evil deeds and grotesque dances, creates a chilling, almost majestic atmosphere.
