Description:Simply placing this underlay can refresh your tatami room. It is suitable for revitalizing sun-bleached tatami and can be used as a cover to prevent dirt on new tatami mats.It uses domestically produced (Kyushu) igusa that is about 105–110cm in length, with approximately 88cm utilized. The edging tends to appear strongly white at the edges. (This is not sun-bleaching; it is the color of the base and tip of the igusa.)Longer igusa strands are considered more luxurious. The tips of the igusa are reddish-brown, the base is white, and the middle is blue (green).Using more high-quality blue parts from the middle results in a durable and beautiful finish.Although igusa naturally develops a sun-bleached appearance over time, those with more blue in the middle tend to age evenly and attractively, developing a nuanced patina.
This product is woven with thread-drawn weaving, similar to tatami mat surface weaving.Compared to double-twisted weaving, it contains more strands of igusa, making it more durable. The surface is smooth, making it less likely to accumulate dust. For those who want long-lasting use or seek durability, thread-drawn weaving is recommended.
It uses domestically produced (Kyushu) igusa, which is thicker, with a coarse outer skin and fine fibers, providing elasticity and excellent durability.Igusa has air-purifying properties, humidity regulation, and is resistant to dirt, making it a hygienic choice. It is treated with Aomori Hinoki (Japanese cypress) processing for antibacterial and deodorizing effects. Both sides can be used, making it economical.
