Description: Simply lay this over your tatami room to refresh it. Use it to refresh tatami that has been sun-faded, or as a cover to protect new tatami from getting dirty. Uses domestic (Kyushu grown) igusa approximately 110-115cm in length. Approximately 91cm of this length is used. The edges of the weave will appear strongly whitish. (This is not sun-fading, but the color of the root and tip of the igusa.) Longer igusa is of higher quality. Igusa has a reddish-brown tip, a white root, and a green middle. The more of the good quality green part in the middle that is used, the more durable and beautiful the finish will be. Also, as igusa ages and fades from the sun, those using more of the green middle part will fade evenly and beautifully, developing character. This product is finished with Hikiorishin, the same weaving method as tatami facing. Compared to Somokushin, it is more durable due to the higher number of igusa insertions. Its smooth surface makes it difficult for dust to accumulate. Hikiorishin is recommended for those who want to use it for a long time or who require durability. Uses domestic (Kyushu grown) igusa. Domestic igusa is thick, has a thick epidermis, and fine fibers, giving it elasticity and excellent durability. Igusa has air purifying and humidity regulating effects, and is resistant to dirt. The igusa has been treated with Aomori Hiba. (Antibacterial and deodorizing effects.) Both sides can be used, making it economical.
