Description: This is a tatami mat cover that prioritizes both aesthetic beauty and durability. It uses both linen and cotton threads for the warp, with twice the amount of thread compared to a standard ito-hiki weave. Combining linen and cotton threads makes the threads themselves very strong. Also, as each thread becomes thicker, the weave has a distinct texture and is very beautiful when finished. Simply laying this cover over your tatami mats will refresh the room. Use it to refresh sun-faded tatami or as a cover to protect new tatami from getting dirty. We use domestically produced igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, a region known for igusa production) that is at least 135 cm long [JAS Class 1 (top class among tatami surfaces)], which is typically used for tatami surfaces. By densely weaving carefully selected, high-quality thick and long igusa, it is durable, long-lasting, and has a comfortable volume against the skin. We use approximately 88 cm of the 130 cm length. This is a high-quality product made with long igusa, resulting in less white at the edges. (The white part is not from sun fading; it is the color of the root and tip of the igusa.) Longer igusa is considered higher quality. Igusa is reddish-brown at the tip, white at the root, and green in the middle. Using more of the good quality green part in the middle results in a stronger and more beautiful finish. Also, as igusa fades with use, products using more of the green middle part will fade evenly and beautifully, developing a unique character. This product is finished with an ito-hiki weave, the same weave used for tatami surfaces. Compared to a soumoku weave, it is more durable due to the higher number of igusa threads per unit area. Its smooth surface makes it difficult for dust to accumulate. We recommend ito-hiki weave for those who want to use it for a long time or require durability. We use domestically produced igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture). Domestic igusa threads are thick, have a thick epidermis, and fine fibers, giving them elasticity and excellent durability. Igusa has air-purifying and humidity-regulating properties, and is resistant to dirt. We have processed the fabric surface with "Hiba essence," extracted from Hiba trees in Aomori Prefecture, using the manufacturer's unique technology. Hiba essence contains hinokitiol, a substance with extremely high antibacterial properties for a natural material. (Compared to untreated products, it has antibacterial and deodorizing effects.)
