Description: This is a tatami mat cover meticulously crafted for both aesthetic beauty and durability. It uses hemp and cotton threads for the warp, with twice the amount of thread compared to regular ito-hiki weave. Combining hemp and cotton threads makes the threads themselves extremely strong. Additionally, as each thread becomes thicker, the weave creates distinct raised and lowered textures, resulting in a very beautiful finish. Simply laying this cover over your tatami mats can refresh the room. Use it to refresh sun-faded tatami or as a cover to protect new tatami from getting dirty. We use domestic (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, a region famous for igusa) igusa that is 135cm or longer [JAS Class 1 (top class among tatami covers)]. The carefully selected, high-quality thick and long igusa is woven at high density, making it durable, long-lasting, and providing a comfortable volume against the skin. Approximately 88cm of the 130cm length is used. This is a premium product made with long igusa, resulting in less white at the edge of the border. (The white part is not sun-fading; it is the color of the root and tip of the igusa.) Longer igusa is considered more premium. Igusa has a reddish-brown tip, a white root, and a green middle section. Using more of the high-quality green middle section results in a stronger and more beautiful finish. Igusa will fade over time with use, but products using more of the green middle section will fade evenly and beautifully, developing a unique character. This product is finished with the ito-hiki weave, the same weave used for tatami surfaces. Compared to the sou-moku weave, it is more durable due to the higher number of igusa threads woven in. Its smooth surface makes it resistant to dust accumulation. We recommend ito-hiki weave for those who want to use it for a long time or require durability. We use domestic (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture) igusa. Domestic igusa threads are thick, have a dense fiber structure with a thick epidermis, providing excellent elasticity and durability. Igusa has air-purifying and humidity-regulating properties, and is resistant to dirt. "Hiba essence," extracted from Hiba trees in Aomori Prefecture, is applied to the fabric surface using the manufacturer's proprietary technology. Hiba essence contains hinokitiol, a substance with extremely high antibacterial properties for a natural material. (Compared to untreated products, it has antibacterial and deodorizing effects.) Both sides of the product can be used, making it economical. *Please note that as this is a natural material and each piece is handcrafted by artisans, there may be variations in shape and slight differences from the stated size. Thank you for your understanding.
